Frequently asked

Screen recording vs screenshot: what's the difference?

A screenshot is a still image of your screen at a single moment, while a screen recording is a video that captures everything happening over a period of time, often with audio.

Use a screenshot when one frame says it all, such as an error message, a layout, or a setting. Use a screen recording when the order of steps, an animation, or a problem that only shows up in motion matters, because a video preserves the whole sequence.

Recordings can also include narration and a webcam, which makes them better for explaining or demonstrating. Sirvez is a free Chrome extension for the recording side: it captures a tab, your desktop, or your webcam, then lets you trim and annotate before sharing.

Quick reference

Screenshot: a still image of one moment. Screen recording: a video of action over time, often with audio.
