Sharing

Password Protection

Lock sensitive recordings with SHA-256 password protection.

Sirvez lets you add a password to any shared recording, secured with SHA-256 hashing, so only intended recipients can watch it.

Setting a password takes two fields: the password itself and an optional hint. Viewers see the password prompt before the video loads — the recording URL is non-functional without it.

What it does

SHA-256 hashing

Passwords are stored as irreversible cryptographic hashes, not plain text.

Optional password hint

Add a hint to help the intended recipient remember the correct password.

URL-level protection

The video does not load at all without the correct password entered.

SHA-256 means the password is stored as a hash, not in plain text. Even if the database were queried directly, the original password is not recoverable from the stored value.

Who uses this

  • Confidential client demos under NDA
  • Internal security and compliance walkthroughs
  • Sensitive support recordings with personal information

Common questions

Is Password Protection available on the free plan?

Yes. Password Protection is available on all Sirvez plans including the free tier. You can add a password to any recording from its settings in Sirvez Media Center, regardless of whether you are on a free or paid plan. There is no limit on the number of recordings you can password-protect. SHA-256 hashing applies to all protected recordings across all plans — the security level does not vary by plan tier. What happens if someone enters the wrong password?

When a viewer enters an incorrect password, the video does not load and they see an error message indicating the password was wrong. They can try again immediately — there is no lockout, no captcha, and no limit on the number of attempts. If a viewer is certain they have the correct password but it is not working, check that the password has not been changed or removed by the recording owner since the link was originally shared. Can I remove or change the password after setting it?

Yes. You can update or remove the password on any recording at any time from its settings in Sirvez Media Center. Changes take effect immediately — the next person to visit the video link will encounter the updated prompt, or no prompt at all if the password was removed. Previously shared links remain the same URL; only the authentication requirement attached to that recording changes. Full answer →
